Fighting Against Web 2.0 With Grunge

May 7th | Web Design

This is the first Inspiredology series, in this 4 part series I am featuring Grunge Design. For the past year we have been stormed by big bold fonts, reflections, bright unique colours, vector based web characters, the list goes on and the Web 2.0 trend has been concluded in one run on sentence.

I never really liked the Web 2.0 trend it never really sank in for me. I will say that it has helped the internet become a more attractive place. But that’s enough with Web 2.0, it’s time for change and change is here.

Grunge has a promising future in my opinion, I have always been more of a grunge designer then something more corporate or clean. In my early years, my peers and teachers told me I should go work for MTV, with my edgy, grunge designs. I love Grunge, there are no restrictions, if you want to try something new, you can do it without really being told that there needs to be more white space. The creative boundaries are endless, and that is one of the reasons why we see more and more grunge based websites.

Designers are always trying to push the envelope, and I think that Grunge is an easy way to push the envelope because there isn’t a set idea of what grunge should look like. Yes, there are grunge elements that most grunge designs have. But, there are always new creative grunge designed sites that are being introduced.

When I say Grunge, I don’t necessarily mean like flat out collages of dirty, splattered elements, Grunge can also be a simple sense of unbalanced design, or just using small design elements.

The titles of the upcoming grunge posts are

Textured Backgrounds - Showcasing grunge textures that add depth and grit to web design.
Drip’s, Splatters & Sprays - Offering websites that use paint splatters, spray’s and drips.
Grunge Elements - Posting about collage’s, torn paper, gritty buttons and more.
Great Grunge Designs - This is the final post of the series, and it’s a great conclusion offering websites that use grunge designs the best.

One little side note, I am very happy that I am getting very good feedback from you guys about the Inspiredology re-design. I welcome more critiquing from all of you guys so head over and jump in on the comments. Inspiredology Needs Your Help
