  • The web today is cluttered with fancy flash, java, ajax, jquery animations and scripts. Often designers feel that when designing we have to put every new cool trendy script in our sites to make sure the client is simply blown off their feet. Designers really need to stick to the good old fashioned KISS (Keep It Simple STUPID).

I know it’s not the easiest thing to do, especially with the many distractions on the web. This post is all about keeping it simple, these 48 sites all showcase great ways on keeping design to a minimum and by doing this allowing the most important part of the site to be shown… the content. I hope you enjoy this post, it might not be dazzling and breathtaking but, you can get a great sense of what makes these sites work very well.

      Thanks for the love!

Anthony Watts did a great job on our Unspace site, and it’s changed only subtly in the time since.

      White-space FTW.

Great stuff… what do you think of my site? Simple enough?

    • July 18, 2008 at 10:52 am

Great collection! With all the ornate and complex graphics that people use in design these days, it’s nice to see some appreciation and effective use of traditional layouts and clean lines.

wow, great collection of really simple websites. As for example, I’ve also made my site as simple using less of graphics and only when necessary. and less of unnecessary coding and graphics.

Awesome collection of really professional looking designs, I need to get my act together and sort out my website…

I’m personally a fan of flash sites. They show effort and are usually much better sites that I’d want to be surfing anyway.

      Definately worth a bookmark. Thanks.

What’s the point of the woman in the picture at the beginning of the page? It’s rather irrelevant.

great list, great inspiration, great to see more people like less-is-more / clean/ basic/ keep-it-simple-stupid web designs and not freak with all the wild graphical effects just because they can do all that with their software.

websites should be about style and communication

    • February 25, 2010 at 3:14 am

This is really inspiring… thank u

    • July 23, 2010 at 10:48 am

Yes simple and to the point…I’m a fan.
As for flash, i think it has it’s place on the right site, such as one bringing some form of entertainment, but as for a site centered around information, learning and content, it can become more of an irritation and a distraction.
And yes… as someone else mentioned – why the irrelevant woman at the top? don’t get it.
