  • With the recent launch of Projekt19, we are taking on more client work. With client work, one of the most exciting parts of the process is discussing the clients expectations and then brainstorming on what we can come up with.

In order to collect the ideas from your client, as well as some of your own ideas – create a Moodboard. Whether you decide to show the client or use it internally, it’s a very helpful tool. One document that you can source for ideas, colour palettes, web elements for the entire project. I thought it would be a great idea to share the Moodboards I have used over the past month. Looking through them you can get an idea of what type of site the moodboard was created for, and hopefully you will also be inspired.

I have included two zip files – one with the entire hi-res collection of Moodboards, as well as the blank psd template I use.

      cool.
Im interested to know do you have a vast memory of sites you like the look of, of do you use stuff like PatternTap and site inspire?

Wow, thank you so much for sharing! I’ve never really taken this approach but it’s something I’m now keen to apply in my work.

      Thanks again!

Cool post Chad. I have only one doubt: do you simply collect using print screens of the entire site which you’re looking or do you crop parts of the website or both? I’ve tried to use moodboard once but don’t got the expected result. ;)

errr… maybe i’m dumb but the idea of sharing a blank psd as a moodboard template is a bit weird. is this following the “hi, download this amazing freebie” fever?

Nathan – I have a memory, but I use Pattern Tap which is a great resource, CSS galleries are always great.

Daniel – I do full screen grabs, and I do crops – it depends on what I like about that site. I am finding more and more then I tend to crop then take a full screen grab.

Susi – The blank template was just secondary to the various moodboards that are available to download. I know it’s not hard to open photoshop and create a new document, I just thought I would throw it in there as well.
Would you have rather seen a moodboard file with all my samples in it, and just pick through the file?

It is always great to see how another designer approaches a project, in my opinion I believe that mood boards are very helpfull and influential when working with a client as it can provide them with a whole host of visual information that can help you tailor your design style to fit the particular look or feel that they are after.

These mood boards are jammed packed, but they help the customer visualize the colour scheme and feel of there website.

      Very nice collection.
I was recently introduced to mood boards when choosing a color pallet for my company website and logo. Very much liked the process and will definitely use that kind of process with my own clients going forward.

mood boards are something i’ve extensively used during my product design career and is a definate must when you maybe are hitting a weak point in your idea and concept generation phase.
Take a step back and review not only the market but most importantly your consumer.

Nice post! But I believe you can add anything in a moodboard. A link to a song, a feeling, pictures of anything, not just websites. This is more of a similarity process.

I prefer structured moodboards to collage ones. It’s easier to see the direction and thought process of the designer when it’s structured. Thanks for sharing.

I really could notice that you spent enough time and energy in composing your site as well as in discussing more information. I’ll take a note of your site as well as recommend it to my buddies.
