Happy 5th Birthday, Inspiredology
Every year around this time, since 2008, we like to post a special birthday article celebrating the past year. That’s right—Inspiredology turns 5 this year and we can’t believe where the time has gone.
The web and design industry has changed so drastically since 2008; it’s incredible to think that Inspiredology is going strong after 5 years and still growing. Let’s put this in perspective: In 2008, we didn’t have tablets, twitter was just becoming popular, and this is what WordPress themes looked like.
This year, the big changes to Inspiredology have been the amount of content we are putting out, this past year was the first year we consistently posted articles 5 days a week; The new addition of our Tuesday’s For Your Inspiration post and Thursday’s Designer Spotlight have provided great content to the Lab. We are very happy with the outcome of our weekly posts, and we hope you are as well. Mike pushed out 12 Web Critiques this year, bringing in a new category for us as well—do you enjoy reading our Web Critiques? Do you have any suggestions or how you would do it differently?
We have aggressively started our official Facebook page for Inspiredology. We have been so fortunate it has had such a great start. We will continue to offer exclusive content via our Facebook page, so be sure to Like us to keep updated. Inspiredology hosted a facebook only contest, in celebration of reaching 1,000 fans, to win an exclusive and incredible poster from talented 3d artist J.R. Schmidt and boy did he deliver!
We successfully launched our biggest campaign in the short life of our facebook page. From fans like you and a talented artist like JR, we drew in over 18,000 views on our single contest post, 112 post likes, 94 page likes, 5 shares, and over 65 entrants to win this exclusive, facebook only, poster. We are proud to give away such high quality piece of artwork to our great community and fanbase. We continue to push content through our Twitter account as well, so make sure to follow Andrew, Mike and myself.
In the past year, the site hasn’t really changed since Version 4, with a few changes here and there, but nothing substantial. For fun, we always like looking back on Version 1 from 2008. What do you think of the improvements we made over the years? Do you think it’s time to bring back the polar bears (of course it is)?
Like previous years, our site traffic has continued to show substantial growth. With the help of our talented guest writers, incredible artist giveaways, Inspiredology’s traffic has grown 22% since last year, including 10% more new visitors and 70% more content with our new posting schedule.
Unique Visitors – 1.1 Million
Visits – 1.35 Million
54% Search Engine
StumbleUpon still sends us over 70% of our social traffic, but Facebook and Twitter have both sent over 100,000 visits this year.

What does the future look like?
You can bet pretty gosh darn bright! One thing we are really excited about is bringing a new feature to the Lab for our great guest writers. Looking at trends in gaming, design, and mobile applications, we have come up with a fun and great way to reward our writers while keeping the integrity of Inspiredology. Can you guess it? Stay tuned as we will be bringing these ideas to the community very, very soon. The Inspiredology team wants to give as many incentives to our writers as possible and give them a place to call home—the only place they want to write. We think you will be equally excited about the new feature we will be bringing in. We are always looking at ways to increase not only on the quality and type of content, but also the amount of content. If you think you have something worthwhile to say for Inspiredology, we’d certainly love to hear from you and bring your creative voice to our great community.
The whole team at Inspiredology would like to extend a huge thank you to all the readers, whether you have just started reading Inspiredology, or have been with us since the start (we would love to hear from you if you have been reading since 2008). We thank you so very much, the site wouldn’t be where it is without you.
I would like to personally thanks Andrew and Mike for all the contributions they have made to Inspiredology, please help me thank them by sending a tweet their way. Best of luck to Inspiredology and the rest of the community, we look forward to many more years!
We want to hear from you! What would you like to see more out of Inspiredology? Are there things you think should be done differently? Let us know and drop us a line!
