Online portfolios that speak for themselves part 2

This is the second set of portfolios I have collected, after the first Online portfolios that speak for themselves post, I just could not stop looking at designer portfolios. I am extremely impressed by the amount of good designers out there.

Online portfolios that speak for themselves

As the economy spirals out of control, more and more designers are emerging in the industry. We will find that there will be more freelance designers, reasons why; easy to start-up, can work from home (looks tempting for people that get laid off, or their hours cut back), can make extra money on the side, and its a fulfilling career choice.

Industry Leading Web Studios

One of my main goals as being a freelance designer is to open a web studio one day. As I work the 9-5 grind, I can only dream of what I could have one day. Searching and following some of the great designers of our day seems to help push me to become that talented and driven.

Online Holiday Branding

Since the crazy Christmas season is upon us, and with the 12 days of Christmas giveaways contest. I am in the whirlwind of Christmas, it’s fairly early for me… but I love it.

Flourished websites

I love the look that comes out of this element. There are so many different patterns that can be created by these flourishes. They are fun and friendly, they give your site a welcome home vintage feel almost. These sites use this element to add texture and depth to their websites.

Brilliant glowing websites

I really enjoy this design element, it has successfully landed as a great design trend both on and offline. To make this effect really pop out, most of the sites use a dark colour scheme and let the elements glow.

Icon heavy websites

Icons have grown into a very large part of web and graphic design. There has been an emerging amount of designers going off into just designing icons for the profession. There are many beautiful icon designers out there today, this post showcase websites, that use icons to portray navigation, ideas and just to beautify their websites.

The best user experience since flash

A growing trend in web design and mainly blog design is multi leveled designs. A site that as you scroll down you notice an obvious change in depth. This is specifically shown with using nature and our beloved environment. You might have noticed this trend in a recent post called When Nature Calls, Nature Inspired Websites

When Nature Calls, Nature Inspired Websites

The environment has seen some serious media attention in the past year or so, celebrities trying to save the environment, and super retail companies offering environmentally safe bags instead of plastic. The environment has had a great impact on us recently, and it’s not shy to the web.

Showcase of Watercolour in Webdesign

This past year I have found that more and more websites have some sort of watercolour effect on them. This effect or style has really come alive in 2008. There are many websites that use this effect to create depth and texture. Though in most cases, watercolour being a very subtle effect, your aesthetics of your site can improve greatly. I personally love the watercolour effect, I think it’s not to distracting but adds something to a design.
