As a follow-up to Chad’s iTunes Music on the Web post I have compiled a list of websites from my current playlist in iTunes. Like many designers, I get my inspiration from all kinds of sources, one of the major ones definitely being music.
Music and me go hand in hand, I hate silence, my house always has music playing – and it plays in every room of the house. I am very particular on how my music is organized in iTunes. I always have my iPhone, iPod and iTunes synced… my library is very organized and I have a very organized archive of music.
We recently showcased Very Colourful Websites , so now I think it’s time to give the opposite “colour” scheme some time in the spotlight. By opposite of course I mean Black and White.
Grid based websites have become very popular over the past year. With a lot of heavier websites users are thrown off or confused because the information is showcased to them in an unorganized way.
Retro Design has been a popular style for quite some time now, and the trend will likely continue in the future.
These examples showcase many different ways a design can be “retro”.
We haven’t visited this web element since last year or so… so I think it was well over due. Web headers are a great place for designers to express the creativity and design skills. With big monitors becoming more popular, a lot of web headers will bleed into the layout or take up a nice height of 400px or more.
Colour is one of the most important weapons in a designer’s arsenal. Proper use of colour can take a ‘good’ design and make it GREAT.
Scouring the web, you see every colour imaginable, and that’s why we love making these colour themed posts. It’s just fun looking through a post and seeing the same colour scheme and not to mention it helps to search by colour when you are in need of some inspiration.
A great way to add depth to a website these days is to help create more of a dynamic environment, or portray a lifelike material. These days, you can’t go a day without seeing at least 5 or 6 tweets about free textures, or “Retweet to win premium textures”. We are even guilty for offering a few texture freebies as well.
With internet speeds being faster then ever, more and more websites are pushing the limits with HD videos, animations and huge beautiful images. These websites showcase websites that use large photos to portray their message. The web content, and functions lay over top, and in some cases the photo brings a really great sense of contrast.
